Description

Summer Sun cherry trees can cope with more northern climates than most other cherry trees and still produce a strong crop of sweet cherries. The dark red cherries have well-flavoured, pleasingly firm flesh and store well once picked (late July). In spring, pretty flowers appear with good frost-resistance.

Capable of producing cherries from a relatively young age, Summer Sun is not self-fertile so it will require a pollinator. The tree itself has an upright, slightly spreading habit. Summer Sun cherry is an excellent modern choice for the UK climate and has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

AKA Prunus avium 'Summer Sun'

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
