Description

'Ben Alder' Blackcurrant is an excellent mid-season variety producing small to medium sized currants that are packed with flavour. Widely grown for commercial juice production thanks to its very high yield and high vitamin C content, though more than suitable for home-growing purposes as well. Small, yellow-green flowers emerge in late spring.

'Ben Alder' has an excellent resistance to diseases and mildew and will form a compact and upright shape, with an approx. height and spread of 1.5 x 1.5 metres.

AKA Ribes nigrum 'Ben Alder'

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
