Our self-fertile fruit trees are ideal for smaller gardens or for when you would prefer to grow a single fruit tree. Self-fertile trees produce a good-sized crop without the need for cross-pollination or pollination partners. We stock around 50 self fertile varieties including many different self fertile apples, pears and cherries.

Whilst many varieties of fruit tree require a different variety of the same fruit species to complete the pollination process, self-pollinating trees  will produce fruit without the need for any intervention. As well as not requiring a compatible fruit tree nearby, an advantage of being able to self-pollinate is that trees can reproduce without any insects or other creatures assisting in this process. This has enabled some species of tree to thrive in areas where they may otherwise have died out altogether.

Because self-fertile fruit trees can produce fruit without the need for any intervention, they are often the easiest and most straightforward way to grow your own fruit at home.
