Description

Prunus litigiosa is known as the Tassel Cherry tree. In mid-Spring the single white flowers hang in clusters with their anthers dangling below giving the effect of tassels. The upright habit of the tree adds to the distinctive look and appeal. Deciduous leaves are green in spring/summer with a good display in the Autumn.

This columnar Cherry Blossom tree will reach a height and spread of 5 x 2.5 metres in 20 years so is suited to small spaces. Native to China, Prunus litigiosa grows well in soil with good drainage, in either a sunny or partially shaded position. Full sun helps to produce the best blossom and autumn foliage displays from this unique variety.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
