Description

A fantastic upright Persian Ironwood tree, Parrotia persica 'Persian Spire' grows to just 3 by 1 metres in 20 years. Purple new foliage develops a green centre in summer which creates an eye-catching effect. In autumn, the green leaves transform to the vibrant reds, oranges and reds that Persian Ironwood trees are renowned for. Unusual, small flowers hint at it's relation to Hamamelis (Witch Hazel) and appear in late winter to early spring.

The small, slender form of Parrotia persica 'Persian Spire' makes it ideal for small gardens or keeping in a container. It will grow happily in full sun to partial shade. It is one of the very best narrow trees for autumn interest.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
