Description

Living up to its name, Liquidambar styraciflua 'Slender Silhouette' is an extremely narrow columnar tree with excellent autumn colour. Growing to approximately 6m high and just 1 metre wide in 20 years creates a tree with a strong architectural form that can be fitted into limited spaces. The polished, deeply lobed foliage is lush green through spring and summer, before turning vivid shades of purple, red and orange in autumn.

This Columnar Sweet Gum is ideal in a small garden where height is desirable, for use as a focal point, breaking up the appearance of ugly buildings or planted in rows to create a formal avenue. Given a relatively moist well-drained soil, 'Slender Silhouette' is a hardy Sweet Gum tree that will withstand periods of drought and temporary flooding once it has established.

AKA Sweet Gum 'Slender Silhouette', Columnar Red Gum, Liquidambar 'Slender Silhouette'

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
