Description

Hamamelis intermedia Firecracker boasts attractive fiery coloured flowers that unfurl in January – February, beginning a rich red before turning more orange. Also known as Magic Fire or Feuerzauber, the colouful flowers of this Witch Hazel shrub make it a firm favourite for winter interest. It is also of great value to wildlife. Large, green foliage turns attractive shades of orange and red in the autumn.

When the leaves fall, it reveals the attractive arching, architectural form of the shrub. It is slightly more upright and stronger growing than other Hamamelis intermedia varieties, with a height and spread of 3 x 2 metres in 20 years. Hamamelis intermedia Firecracker requires a well drained, acid - neutral soil in sun or partial shade and can tolerate some exposure.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
