Description

Berberis Thunbergii 'Harlequin' is a compact, upright and deciduous shrub. It features striking, deep purple leaves splashed with vibrant pink, which turn a brilliant shade of red before falling in the autumn, offering year-round colour. In spring, the leaves are contrasted by pale yellow flowers that are delicately tinged with soft red. 'Harlequin' is an ideal low-maintenance choice for brightening up a flower bed while attracting various pollinators.

This shrub will thrive in full sun or partial shade in an exposed or sheltered environment. It is extremely hardy, rated H7, meaning it can withstand the harshest of European climates. It will grow in moist, but well-drained soils and has an ultimate height and spread of 2 x 1 meters.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
