Description

Sorbus latifolia 'Henk Vink' is a striking and versatile small to medium-sized Whitebeam tree, reaching an approximate height of 10 metres and a spread of 5 metres at maturity. It features broad, oval leaves that are dark green on top and lighter underneath, turning vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red in the autumn. In late spring, 'Henk Vink' produces clusters of small, white flowers that are followed by attractive red berries in the autumn, which are loved by birds and wildlife.

This tree thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. Whitebeam Trees are a low-maintenance tree and they tolerate exposed or windy locations very well, making them an excellent choice for parks, gardens, and urban landscapes. Its beautiful seasonal changes and wildlife-friendly berries make it a standout addition to any setting.

Aftercare Advice

Rowan require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.

Rowan trees require a strong framework to support their many berries, so it is good to encourage this by raising the crown in summer. Simply prune the lower branches and any crossing, damaged or diseased branches within the crown. Hard pruning can be carried out in the dormant season, from autumn to winter.
