Description

A popular and award-winning dwarf golden Yew tree, Taxus baccata Standishii boasts bright golden yellow foliage. The dense evergreen foliage is decorated with ornamental red berries in autumn. Growing to height and spread of 1 x 0.5 metre in 20 years, the Standish Yew tree is the ideal dwarf conifer for rockeries, patios and small gardens.

Taxus baccata Standishii has an upright habit and narrow form, becoming broadly columnar with age. It can be clipped to keep its narrower profile if desired. As with other Yews, it can be hard pruned and will re-generate well from old wood. It is suited to both full sun and full shade, with the gold foliage being most vibrant in full sun. Most soil types, apart from wet soils, are tolerated.

Note: please bear in mind that all Taxus varieties are toxic if eaten.

AKA Standish Yew, Taxus Standishii, Dwarf Yew, Golden Yew, Golden Irish Yew tree

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Conifers require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.

Most Conifers need very little pruning. Simply remove any dead, diseased or awkwardly placed branches as and when you see them.
