Description

A bushy, relatively compact Purple Weeping Willow that adds colour and texture to gardens. Holding the RHS Award of Garden Merit, Salix purpurea 'Pendula' produces silvery white catkins in the spring, before narrow green-blue foliage. Young pendulous branches often have attractive red-purple tinges and create a bushy, lolly pop shape when young.

Maturing to a graceful mound-forming shape, Salix purpurea 'Pendula' will grow to a height and spread of 3.5 x 2.5 metres in 20 years. This Weeping Willow is happiest in a damp and sunny spot in the sun and looks particularly at home next to water.

AKA Purple Weeping Willow

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
