Description
Laburnocytisus 'Adamii' is a unique hybrid between Laburnum and Purple Broom. This small tree display a variety of fragrant, pea-like, yellow flowers (Laburnum), purple flowers (Purple Broom) and sometimes a mixture of both, resulting in attractive, coppery pink flowers, all appearing in spring. The foliage is mostly Laburnum-like (dark-green in spring and summer) but you may also find clusters of broom-like shoots.
Laburnocytisus Adamii has an unusual origin - at the Adam nurseries near Paris in 1825, a nurseryman was grafting Purple Broom after Laburnum and the accidental grafting resulted in this remarkable tree. Quite rare but easy to keep, Laburnocytisis is a stunning addition to any garden and is suited to a sheltered position with moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Broom Laburnum will grow to an eventual height and spread of 4 x 2.5m in 20 years. This unusual tree is a real conversation starter and will ensure you have the most original garden on the street!
Note: every part of this tree is toxic to humans and animals when ingested, especially the seed pods.
