Description

Jasminum nudiflorum, often known simply as Winter Jasmine, is a popular, medium-sized shrub with gorgeous, butter yellow flowers in winter and spring. Originating in China, Winter Jasmine is often referred to as "Yingchun" in Chinese, which translates as "the flower that welcomes spring". This beautiful shrub is more than happy in a UK climate, though, having received the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its reliable performance in the garden.

Jasminum nudiflorum does not twine, unlike many other jasmine varieties, however it can be trained as a climber—it makes a stunning feature in its flowering months when trained as a wall shrub. Plant Winter Jasmine in a moist, well-draining soil in a full sun position for the best blooms. Expect an approximate height and spread of 3 x 3 metres in 20 years.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
