Description

Berberis stenophylla is a a medium sized evergreen shrub with a compact and arching form, making it an ideal variety for hedges and screens. It can reach an approximate height and spread of up to 4m. The golden barberry has fine, needle like shaped leaves dark green in colour, which provide a stunning contrast to the clusters of bright yellow flowers which bloom in mid to late spring. In autumn, black-blue coloured berries emerge, attracting birds and other wildlife to the garden.

Berberis stenophylla thrives in moist but well-drained to well-drained soils and can tolerate full sun to partial shade. It is hardy, low-maintenance, and provides year-round interest, making it a great choice for mixed borders or as a standalone specimen.

AKA Barberry, Golden Barberry, Narrow-Leaved Barberry, Rosemary Barberry

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
