Description

In early spring, Exochorda serratifolia 'Snow White' is covered in large, pure-white 5 petalled saucer shaped flowers, emerging from pearl like buds which give it its range of common names, e.g. Pearl tree. The flowering is unaffected by spring frosts because this plant is native to Korea and Manchuria, which both experience cold temperatures in spring.

A deciduous small branching tree, Exochorda serratifolia 'Snow White' has an arching habit. It has a moderate growth rate and will take 10 years or more to reach 4m in height (final height and spread of 4 x 3 metres) so it is ideal for small gardens. Plant in sun or dappled shade and any well drained soil other than shallow chalk.

AKA Pearl Tree, Sawtooth Pearl Bush, Pearlbush, Pearl Bush

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
