Description

Living for up to 3000 years, Sequoiadendron giganteum are truly magnificant evergreen trees. The awl-shaped foliage provides year-round appeal along with the thick, spongy reddish brown bark. Cones are 4–7 cm long and decorate the tree in November, creating additional seasonal interest.

A conical form of 12 x 4 metres is reached in 20 years when planted in moist, well-drained soil, with a position in full or partial sun. Once established, this tree will tolerate some damp and inland exposure. Also commonly known as a Giant Redwood or Wellingtonia tree, this marvellous conifer will create a stunning feature in any good sized garden.

AKA Giant sequoia, Sierra redwood, Sierran redwood, Wellingtonia tree, Big tree

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
