Description

Larix decidua has a wonderful conical shape that broadens with age to form a majestic tree. The branches sweep gently upwards in an elegant manner, with new shoots appearing in a contrasting pale colour and the needles taking on a light green colour. The Common Larch is a deciduous conifer and in autumn the needles become bright yellow before falling. Whilst flowers are insignificant, it produces pretty erect cones up to 6cm long.

Suitable for medium to large sized gardens, expect a height and spread of 8x4 metres in 20 years. This hardy tree can tolerate extreme cold so is ideal for the most northern British climate.

AKA Common Larch tree, European Larch

Planting Steps

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
