Description

Cotoneaster salicifolius ‘Repens’ is a fast-growing, semi-evergreen shrub that is an excellent choice for ground cover. Also known as Willowleaf Cotoneaster, this shrub has a spreading, creeping habit, growing small, green leaves in summer which take on plum-coloured hues in the autumn. Pretty clusters of white flowers emerge in the summer followed by small, red berries which are popular with hungry birds. As a semi-evergreen, its leaves as well as its fruits typically stick around well into winter for prolonged seasonal interest.

This tough Cotoneaster can grow in many conditions, including exposure and dry sites, as well as most well-draining soils including clay. Plant in full sun or partial shade for the best blooms and fruits. Reaching an approximate height and spread of 1 x 2.5 metres in 20 years, Cotoneaster salicifolius ‘Repens’ would make a lovely addition to a shrub border, or a background plant.

AKA Willowleaf Cotoneaster, Prostrate Willowleaf Cotoneaster

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
