Description

The ideal small tree for winter interest, Salix 'Erythroflexuosa' displays unusual red, twisted branches that adopt shades of orange as they age. Yellow spring catkins are followed by bright-green, lance shaped foliage, falling in the autumn to reveal the colourful, twisted, architectural stems.

Also known as the Red Twisted Willow or Tortured Willow for its curling stems, Salix 'Erythroflexuosa' has received RHS AGM status. This Willow variety will grow to 5 x 3 metres in 20 years and is suited to most sunny sites, including wet ground and exposed conditions.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
