Description

Often planted for its extended ornamental value, Viburnum x Burkwoodii Mohawk bursts into life in spring with large, shiny, bright red budded heads. The colourful buds adorn this dense shrub long before they begin to open. Once open, the white flowers are flushed with red edges and emit a wonderful, spiced scent. It is this aroma that makes Viburnum Mohawk a must when planting near paths, patios or entrance ways so everybody can enjoy the fragrance.

The summer flowers are followed by red fruits that ripen to black in autumn. Unlike its parent shrub, this Viburnum is deciduous and the dark green leaves take on a multitude of shades in autumn, turning red, orange and yellow. We do have a semi-evergreen Viburnum if you want year round cover and screening.

'Mohawk' is a small garden shrub that can be expected to reach 2 x 2m and is best suited to a sunny or partially shaded site and a moist, well-drained soil.

AKA Viburnum 'Mohawk', Arrowwood 'Mohawk'

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
