Description

Lonicera × purpusii 'Winter Beauty' is one of the best honeysuckle plants for winter interest which is truly deserving of its name. It grows masses of creamy white flowers, which have a deliciously sweet scent, in winter through to early spring. In midwinter they grow on bare branches for a striking floral display. Rich in nectar, these flowers have won this plant the RHS Plants for Pollinators status and are especially popular with bumblebees. Outside of winter Lonicera ‘Winter Beauty’ grows small, oval-shaped green foliage. The flowers are sometimes followed by small red berries in the summer.

A bushy, rounded shrub that tolerates most moist well-draining soils, Honeysuckle ‘Winter Beauty’ prefers a full sun position but can also manage partial shade. It will reach an approximate height and spread of 2.5 x 2.5 metres in 20 years. Fully hardy, this honeysuckle has won the RHS Award of Garden Merit and can either be enjoyed as a standalone specimen or trained against a fence or wall.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
