Description

Crataegus laevigata 'Crimson Cloud' is a Hawthorn tree offering an abundance of single, pinkish-red flowers with white centers. The vibrant flowers appear in May against the lush, glossy green, deeply lobed foliage. The foliage adopts shades of warm yellow and bronze in autumn, which also brings a spattering of red haws. As the name of Flowering Hawthorn suggests, this tree has sharp thorns on its branches.

This tough and beautiful Flowering Hawthorn tree is popular with a variety of wildlife and will grow to an estimated 5 x 4 metres in 20 years. 'Crimson Cloud' is a really special small garden tree suited to an array of positions and situations including exposed, coastal, polluted and damp sites.

AKA Crataegus laevigata 'Punicea', Hawthorn 'Punicea', Hawthorn 'Crimson Cloud', May tree, May thorn

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
