Description

Syringa vulgaris ‘Paul Thirion’ is a beautiful Lilac tree growing large, upright panicles of intensely fragrant flowers. Originating in France, the large double flowers are a lovely purple-pink colour, emerging from dark purple-red buds. They are often cut and incorporated into floral arrangements and are very attractive to pollinators including bees and butterflies. Lush green, heart-shaped leaves accompany the blooms, completing the overall look of this charming Lilac tree.

Syringa vulgaris ‘Paul Thirion’ has a dense and compact but spreading form and will reach an approximate height and spread of 4 x 3 metres in 20 years. Easy to grow and low-maintenance, ‘Paul Thirion’ tolerates semi-shade but prefers a full sun position in any well-draining soil. Create a border hedge by planting as part of a group, or plant as an individual specimen tree.

AKA Syringa 'Paul Thirion', Common Lilac 'Paul Thirion'

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
