Description

The 'Comtesse de Paris' pear tree is a self-fertile variety known for its large, freckled green fruit with a smooth, melting texture and sweet, slightly spicy flavor. Introduced in 1882, this tree produces juicy pears that are ideal for both fresh eating and culinary uses, especially in sweet and savory dishes. The fruits are harvested at the end of October and, with proper storage, can last until January. Its rapid growth and disease resistance make it an excellent choice for an introduction to growing fruit trees. In the spring, the tree also produces beautiful white flowers which attract various pollinators.

'Comtesse de Paris' Pear tree will thrive in a full sun or partial shade within a sheltered position and prefers moist, deep, well-drained soil. In winter an application of wood ash will enhance flowering and fruit quality. It has an approximate height and spread of 4x3 meters.

Pyrus communis 'Comtesse de Paris' originates from Dreux, France in1882.

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
