Description

Big Ben Blackcurrant is an award-winning, early season variety that truly lives up to its name. Its exceptionally large fruits can grow up to 2 or 3 times the size of other blackcurrants! It is also very high-yielding when mature so is an excellent choice for a bountiful harvest. Big Ben's fruits are soft and shiny with a delectably sweet flavour, best enjoyed straight from the bush but can be used for cooking as well.

Self-fertile with an upright shape and an approx. height and spread of 1.5 x 1.5 metres in 20 years. An ideal choice for wildlife friendly gardens, having received RHS Plants for Pollinators status.

AKA Ribes nigrum 'Big Ben'

Aftercare Advice

Trees and shrubs require a good watering regime for a couple of years whilst they establish. Water well and regularly through spring and summer, increasing in hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little. It is advisable to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass during this period.
